Mission San Diego de Alcalá
Today: Today, it's a place of education about California's early days and offers insight into the influence of Spanish culture.
Then and now: The Kumeyaay people had lived here for thousands of years before the mission was built. Spanish missionaries came to convert them to Christianity, and life changed a great deal for the Kumeyaay — often in ways that were not fair to them. Now, it's a protected site where people learn about history and different cultures.
